Jan JarrellJan Keessen Jarrell earned her Ph.D. in American Literature at the University of Chicago where she was the Norman Maclean scholar. She retired recently as Professor of English at Augustana College where she also wrote and narrated word histories for WVIK, the college's arm of NPR and published Cardinal Men & Scarlet Women: A Colorful Etymology of Words That Discriminate. Currently she is living in Eureka with Gene Jarrell, the Montana man of her dreams, and writing a novel, Making Headlines in Colt River Montana.
