His previous books include Stories from Montana’s Enduring Frontier and The Cowboy Girl: The Life of Caroline Lockhart, which was named a finalist for the High Plains Book Award and a Best Book of the Year by the website NewWest.net. Clayton writes regularly for the Montana Quarterly Big Sky Journal, and WyoHistory.org; he’s also had recent work in Salon, Magic (City) Magazine, and High Desert Journal.
